Supposedly you are aftre Stokes for around 1.5 million, 800k bid was rejected supposedly.
I wish Rangers put in a bid for someone like Stokes, instead of Jelavic who cost 4 million and has a worse scoring record than Samaras. I'm not sure his record is comparable to Samaras, I know he has scored similar amount of goals but in the last 18 months he has really came onto his game, I think he'll be a real player for Rangers, I think its a good signing, very ambitious signing as well considering the amount of crap that gets said about the finances.
I'd be absolutely delighted if we signed Stokes too, it's embarrassing that we could get him for so much less than what we could get for that can't score no mark Fortune, honestly, I can't even explain how delighted I am that we've got rid of that 3 legged dog from the team, utter brilliance! All I was saying is I would rather have a proven striker in the SPL i.e stokes and riordan than what we bought in Jelavic and Beattie. Jelavic has improved but I think 4 mill is over priced in my opinion.

- Liverpool have moved quickly to replace Javier Mascherano by agreeing a £10.7m package with Porto tonight for the Portugal international Raul Meireles.
Meireles, one of Portugal's more impressive players at the World Cup, is understood to have agreed personal terms and, if everything goes to plan, the deal will be completed over the weekend, dependent on the 27-year-old passing a medical examination.
The transfer was rushed through this evening after Mascherano finally got his wish to leave Anfield, joining Barcelona in a £20m deal that freed up the money for Liverpool to bring in a cheaper replacement.
Meireles is available for a low fee because he only has two years of his contract left and Porto have been trying to sell him rather than risk losing him on a free transfer in the future. http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2010/aug/27/liverpool-sign-raul-meireles-porto The player has been prominently linked with Manchester United over the past month but does not fit into the club's policy under the Glazer family of not signing players for big money if they are aged 26 or above, Dimitar Berbatov being the exception to the rule. Liverpool do not operate with such restrictions and the manager Roy Hodgson will hope Meireles can make his debut in the league game at Birmingham City on 12 September.

meireles could be a good signing, i wasnt really expecting us to get a replacement for masch as i thought the americans/rbs would keep the cash for themselves

- Liverpool have signed Portugal midfielder Raul Meireles on a four-year deal from Porto.
The Reds have paid 14m euros (£11.5m) for the 27-year-old who has 38 caps. The Portuguese is a combative player and is seen as a natural replacement for Javier Mascherano, who is poised to complete a move to Barcelona. "Liverpool are a historic club and I am happy for the move. Roy Hodgson was key because he worked so hard to get me," Meireles told the Liverpool website. "It has been a long time coming but finally I have achieved my dream of playing in England." Meireles has joined Milan Jovanovic, Joe Cole, Christian Poulsen, Jonjo Shelvey and Danny Wilson in moving to Anfield this summer.
He played in all four of his country's games at the 2010 World Cup finals - Portugal succumbed to eventual winners Spain in the last 16 in South Africa. In six years at Porto, the former Boavista and Aves player won four Portuguese league titles. Reds boss Roy Hodgson has swooped for Meireles after the Anfield club agreed a fee, believed to £17.25m, with Barca for Argentina captain Javier Mascherano. Hodgson's midfield options have been further depleted by the departure of Italian Alberto Aquilani to Juventus on a year-long loan deal. Meanwhile, Hodgson is also believed to be on the verge of taking left-back Paul Konchesky from his previous club Fulham, and has been strongly linked with PSV Eindhoven's Swedish striker Ola Toivonen. Meireles, well im more than happy with that signing, i wasnt expecting the cash from masch to be used in this transfer window, hes a fantastic replacement for masch and means we dont have to rely on poulsen and lucas. koncheskey, hmm, suppose hes fills up our british quota and gives us a clear first choice LB, but hes solid if nothing else and Toivonen, theres always got to be some skepticism with dutch signings, so we just have to hope for the best if the signing does go through

you know what you get, he's not anywhere near as angry as he used to be too, hodgson has done a good job with him.

but them 2 back ups capello had a hard time picking between, are wank compared to the kon man, shame really. not that he'd have got in the team, but if cole got injured you want someone experianced, who plays a similar game and thats konchesky.
bah capello out lol
in other england news crewe now have 3 players in the under 17s. A GOALKEEPER is one, dunno how thats happened lol. we are famously bad with goalkeepers.

Possibly but it's still early days for Weiss at the club.It would be unfair to make judgments on how good/bad he may be for us over the season. Already he seems a bit Jekyll and Hyde though, great debut vs Hibs but his home debut, he was very greedy and was trying ambitious shots from all over the place instead of picking out a pass which would be a better option

| I'm happy with Meireles, not as good as Masch, but with funds left over, is probably a good option, especially with Poulsen already being brought in as well, hopefully it means Lucas can be used in a more attacking role since that is his natural position and he looked alright going forward.
Konchesky is a solid left back, probably about as good as Aurelio and less injury prone so a good option, if he is brought in hopefully Insua goes for more transfer funds for January.
Apparently we're not going for Toivonen anymore, Hodgson said after the match that 'he isn't what the club is looking for.'

Supposedly Scharner was very close to joining you earlier in the summer but turned you down because Bruce wanted to use him at the back where as he wanted to play midfield, which he will for us I would think. Gyan looked great at the world cup, very pacy but his finishing is a bit suspect. He missed the penalty that would have got Ghana to the semi-finals.
