Nick Is A Future England Player

Dario Gradi has told the club's official web-site that he firmly believes that our former striker Nicky Maynard has the ability to go on to play for England. The Alex boss knows the Winsford-born Maynard better than most and predicts that the natural goalscorer has the potential to follow the likes of Danny Murphy, Dean Ashton, Rob Jones, Seth Johnson, David Platt and Geoff Thomas into the England set-up.


Maynard finished the season as the joint top scorer in the Coca-Cola Championship with 20 league goals for Bristol City and that prolific form in front of goal has increased the speculation about his future with allegedly a host of Premiership clubs poised to make a bid for him this summer.


Dario isn't getting involved in that (sure this isnt a price increase ploy... lol) but says that Maynard has the potential to score goals at the very top level.


Dario told crewealex.net: "Nicky is a natural goalscorer and I know him inside-out. (yes you do sir.) He can score all sorts of goals. He can get the tap-ins, the ones from distance, can score with either foot and get in there with his head as well. He just scores goals and his all-round game has improved too.


"Steve Holland used to come back from Academy games and say to me, Nicky Maynard, Nicky Maynard almost every week. I used to watch him and he would do very little in the game and then he would just score goals.


"I would say Dean Ashton is the most natural finisher I've ever worked with here, but Nicky is in that class and is a better athlete. He will score goals that Dean couldn't score because he is quicker and can get in behind for those chances.


"I really do think it is a shame that the World Cup has come around a couple of years too early because I think he could have forced his way in. He could be around for the next one and if he is scoring goals in the Premiership by then he will have a great chance.


"There is a lot of football left in Nicky yet and he is has the potential to become a really top finisher."

hell never play more than 10 games for england.

this is dario trying to get attention on him though.

doesnt matter what actually happens, dario wants him in the prem so will get his word out.

he is miles behind alot of english strikers, but things can change quickly, hes not even that fast lol compared to proper pacey strikers

Gillingham have a very lovley one for Luek Freeman (Our and the fa cup's youngest player) like 25or 30 percent , But then if he plays for proper england team (whihc he will) we get a millon and we get like 3 million if he scores 3 goals ro some shit

Coppell has said Maynard is not for sale and Nicky has said he's happy at city.

they all say that doesnt mean anything

yeh but i think Maynard recognises he needs another year yet. Coppell thinks having Maynard is our best chance of reaching the premiership

What footballer ever 'realises' that? anyone worth their salt will believe they are good enough to play for any team at any level, all they need is a chance

Just read his team mates call him leona lewis and that he may be on way to fulham

his interviews thorughout the season, talking about where he wasn't putting his chances away, just seemed like he felt like to be as good as possible he needs another high goal total year,

Jnr the Fulham rumour has been going for ages, they supposedly won't go high enough to what City would want

well i read three and a half but i reckon fulham will stick in a juicy internationl apps fee in there and deal could be done.

we signed him for 2.25 and Crewe's sell on fee is somewhere between 20-25%

So for 3.5m our profit on Maynard would be under 1m. Steve Lansdown is enough of a businessman to know we can make a big profit off Maynard

lol he is happy there... So what... He'd be happier in the prem simple. I'm sure he will be on the phone to dario and steve holland talking it over and its obvious what gradi will advise, reach for the stars

okay. He wants that. But you have been alive during a transfer window before right? One thing i will say, he will think hard about any option he wont just run off at the first sight of dollar, although he is bling

you will have to accept you are a stepping stone though, like norwich for deano. And erm preston for billy....cough.

i think along with his attitude towards Bristol City and the price we would want for him will see very few Premiership teams willing to meet that price so i would see it unlikely that he leaves unless City are sure the money we get from him will finance a good enough replacement.

I find it hard to believe premier league teams will pay big money for an unproven premiership striker whose only had 2 seasons in the championship
