Taker's Streak Empty
PostSubject: Taker's Streak   Taker's Streak EmptyFri Feb 20, 2009 2:20 am

This isn't news of Undertaker's new hobby, it's about how you feel about the streak and what you think will happen with it.

I say it won't end and I hope it doesn't.

I've always been a massive Taker fan and admire him more than anyone else in WWE. He's done so much over the years for that company and is sometimes overlooked when the term "biggest star" comes around. He's been there with Hogan, Yokozuna, Bret Hart, Austin, Rock, HHH, Cena and Orton. A few generations of stars and he's always been close to the top and outlasted them all.

I think Flair is the only one who comes even close to being on top as long but even he wasn't as properly active as Undertaker has been. Plus Flair has the incredible World Title record to his name anyway.

Taker hasn't had that many titles, I think Cena has had more so make of that what you will. He's had so many go over him too. I can't think of any of the big names in the last decade who hasn't beaten him. The streak is the one stat he has to separate him from all the other greats and it's something that wont be touched. It's something he deserves too.

Taking it away now would be like voiding all of Flair's title reigns. It would be a disgrace to strip one of the longest serving, hardest working members of the roster of this honour. I also think he is such a professional that he wouldn't even argue if he was told to lose, I reckon he would just do it.

As for using it to get someone over, I don't think any one is worthy and don't think it would do much good anyway. I think it would go past heel heat and turn into more genuine hate for them. And if it was an established star, like HHH, then I would single handedly hunt down Vince, tie him up and slap him with a sock full of shit. That would be the most disrespectful thing possible.

Still, saying all of this I still doubt he actually will lose as WWE have little to gain from it in the long run. I doubt it would go down well with the majority of fans as very few (except Bazz obviously) dislike Taker. Marks and smarks alike would be disappointed.

So don't be an anonymous voter, say why and what you think.

PostSubject: Re: Taker's Streak   Taker's Streak EmptyFri Feb 20, 2009 2:41 am

I don't like the Undertaker, haven't since around 2003

I enjoyed his biker gimmick because it was a change yet it was still the Taker

I find his character and his routine very boring, he goes up against a big guy, they need to cheat to win, he shows enormous 'hulkamania' strength but the odds over come him and he dies, he disappears for a couple of months and comes back, usually main events the PPV he makes his comeback at and totally destroys the guy who had the temerity to be booked to put him out in the first place, his whole gimmick has changed in the ring, yet he still plays the spook character, he is no longer slow or methodical except in his horrible entrance, he barely talks anymore either despite him having brilliant mic skills

The Undertaker reached his peak 10 years ago as the Lord of Darkness and has been boring as hell ever since barring around an 18 month period

PostSubject: Re: Taker's Streak   Taker's Streak EmptyFri Feb 20, 2009 3:36 am

I don't think it'll end, nor do I want it to. Then again I may be a bit biased as Taker is my all time favourite wrestler. He has a fantastic gimmick, and has worked incredibly hard over the years to improve his in ring ability, with great results. There is no other big man who comes close to Taker in terms of talent or overness. Also I think it would be foolish of WWE to end the streak, as even when Taker retires, if the streak is intact, they can still build around it when he inevitably comes back for the occassional match at Mania.

Taker is a fella who brings out the old Mark in me.

I dont want it to end this year as the fellas he may be facing are already established names in the WWE. I would have loved to it be ended by a young and upcomer, this would get them over a supreme amount and add another person to the main event.

For me I would like to see Ted Di Biase do it, next year after a long fued

PostSubject: Re: Taker's Streak   Taker's Streak EmptyFri Feb 20, 2009 11:29 am

I think it depends on the person.

I really like Undertaker and at the moment is only on of three faces I actually enjoy watching, now I understand for someone like gaffer he can be boring as he has been at the top for so long, only really changing once, but I haven't watched him as long and view his character as the best apart from Jericho's.

But I think if WWE really wanted to put someone over to the top, the streak IMO is the best way to do it. I would prefer it not to end, but if WWE found the right guy and he was really set for big things, I wouldn't mind if that person ended the streak.

I doubt that person will ever come along though.

I think one person, I and others, thought would end the streak was Randy Orton. In fact I think he has been the only person I've seen face Undertaker at WM who actuallly had a chance of winning. But there would be no reason to have Orton end it now.

To be honest I think he'll retire his streak in tact because WWE would be too weary (rightly so) to give someone such a momentous victory.

he is a legend, he doesnt need to keep going and i cba with it still going, because if it never ends we know he will win and id like to think its finally possible for some cunt to end it.

really wanted to see orton vs taker just so orton can kill the biggest legend of all, the streak.

I really think these days "the streak" is more important that the undertaker himself lol.

someone could end it and start there own, its beautiful. so "the streak" would kind of live on after taker retires with some new top talent. whoever beats the streak will get good luck at mania Razz

It depends on the opponent for me

wrestlemania has become very predictable as far as he is concerned and to loose a match against someone would be a huge shock, and will get someone over big time, if they were to end the streak it would have to be against someone who is getting a huge push, id save it for someone like Morrison in a year or 2.

16 votes, this place is getting busier, good stuff

As for who could take it off him, if it where leading to a main event push then Shelton Benjamin would be a great shout, they had a match before the Rumble and it stole the show that night on SD

I hoped it would be more than just a good showing for Taker before the Rumble

Taker's Streak Empty
PostSubject: Re: Taker's Streak   Taker's Streak EmptyFri Feb 20, 2009 11:32 pm

It wont but I want it to.
My comments pretty much echo Gaffer's on Taker.
I got into wrestling because of Taker, that appearance at Survivor Series in Dibiase's team changed me from a casual viewer to instantly a 'wow this is awesome' fan.
I marked something chronic to him in the early years, even enjoying him chloraforming the life out of Gonzalez and that horrendous outfit.
But what Gaffer said is spot on.
Taker is boring now.
He trudges along in feuds, gets a title fight and then suddenly a monster heel attacks him.
Commentator goes on about how Taker has never been brutalized like this before.
They meet at the PPV.
Taker loses and dies/buried alive/sacked ie spends a couple of months on hols banging Michelle McCool.
comes back and attacks monster.
Monster suddenly is now scared of Taker when before battered the crap out of him
Meet again at PPV. Taker wipes floor with him, crowd cheer.
Taker then trudges along in feuds, gets a title fight and then suddenly a monster heel attacks him. Commentator goes on about how Taker has never been brutalized like this before.
Notice a pattern emerging?

PostSubject: Re: Taker's Streak   Taker's Streak EmptyFri Feb 20, 2009 11:46 pm

I would like it taken off him but i dont think it will.

There is no point having an established wrestler take it off him, it does nothing for the wrestler therefore you really need to have someone coming up through the ranks to take it from him giving them the platform to go on and main event.

Someone a while back mentioned Ted DiBiase and this is the ideal person to have end his streak, hes got the look, he seems to have promise on the mic and is a good wrestler but at this moment in time due to the Legacy feud and Ted not being a big enough name in general this hasnt happened.

Why not next year? Simply because i dont think Taker will be here this time next year, his TV matches are nothing to get excited about and whilst he pulls it off on PPV, his overall work schedule needs to be reduced heavily to save his knees for another year but i think Taker needs to step back and think about his long term health as arthritis (something many internet sources [not the most reliable] seem to think he is having real problems with) is no joke and at some point soon hes got to realize this.

Also what Gaffer and Macca said the Undertaker gimmick has been done to death, back in 2006 when i first got a pirate copy of a PPV i thought wow this guy is great and ever since ive been scabbing wrestling shows of the internet but even after 2 and a bit years i have become bored of him.

The thing is, I can appreciate what Leak said that since he is younger he has not been exposed to The Undertaker for as long as me and Maccs, and when you consider we watched the guy before Leak was born it puts his character into perspective, however, I don't see what the Undertaker gives to a new fan, I can see why Crusier, Grec and Guns all love him, they have grew up with him, however I haven't seen much in the last 3 years to suggest that he could draw new younger fans, obviously he can, but I just don't see how.

I think its became cool to like The Undertaker because many smarks like him, so the younger guys think liking Taker will get them some ear time from smarks when they go about discussing guys they do actually like.

That's not my opinion on all young guys who like him, simply some I have came across in certain forums

cheers Gaffer with the mention I was watching it before Leak was born, I'll just curl up now with my cocoa and slippers now and quietly pass away for a neighbour to get alarmed in a weeks time when the milk piles up outside and a funny smell wafts out the letterbox. The firemen will come in to find me half chewed by my cat.
so much to look forward too.

I think a lot of newer wrestling fans like Taker, for the same reasons that the rest of us got into him when he first came on the scene, because it is a great gimmick. Also I think he is helped by the fact he has been puting on some fantastic matches over the last few years, and anyone who can drag Batista to a great match is deserving of appreciation.

Like I said, I would love the Undertaker to lose his streak, however I wouldn't want him to retire on a loss like that, I wouldn't want him to lose then leave, I don't feel the guy beating him would get the benefit of that due to the WWE not really talking up much characters who are not in the brand, although this changed last year with constant references to Ric Flair after Michaels beat him.

Nevermind WrestleMania, I'm an old romantic, he should end it as he started it, at Survivor Series, although if we are going to be pedantic if he was going to end it like he started it should be in random house shows

Remember No Mercy (I think) where Edge beat him in that TLC and the arena went dark and he just walked out. I thought that was the best thing WWE had done for years, was atmospheric as fook. I mean, it was obvious he would come back, but it would be amazing if he really did go like that, after an amazing match anyway.

I'm in two minds, when he does call it a day, he deserves the big Flair send off, and I've no doubt that he would get that backstage but having everyone come out and thank him and wish him well would give the fans closure, but it doesn't fit in with his character at all
