Just saw this mentioned on a football boar on 606 and I was curious to see what people think.

We have transfer windows for players, and you cannot sign a player outside of the window. So, should there also be in place a 'managers window', which is the only time you can change managers?

No.

Because that would force chairmen to not sack someone who is failing to run your club properly if you cant replace them with someone outside of your club.

But would it not make chairmen think more about who they appoint in the first place?

it would yes, but all managers are capable of failing in a new club, because every single player is a differant human (personality, etc) to the ones they last managed.

there maybe should be something to discourage poaching managers from other clubs, as there are a hell of alot of managers unemployed that would do a better job, as they are fresh, not used to a specific team etc, but confining it to a time slot no, too much pressure, what if you have to sign a manager by friday? and you have only interveiwed three potential men.

Also, what if you were nearing the end of a transfer window, your manager wasn't doing too great but you wanted to give him a bit more time? the chairman could feel under pressure to sack him straight away and bring in somebody else.

The major difference is players can be dropped when they under perform then sold on, can hardly drop the manager unless you get a team of them in too...

Honestly, I'm not sure. it'd stop teams ploughing through 3 or 4 managers a season, stop the likes of Iain Dowie working somewhere for a few months and collecting a pay-off for doing fuck-all and the lower division chairmen who just promote the assistant manager for a while, see it go tits up and then sack him would actually have to think about what they're doing. On the minus side, if Exeter had a shite manager who was doing really badly, I'd be doing my nut if I knew we couldn't get rid.

The guy on 606 managed to argue things a bit better than I have!
