Capello to stay on as england boss

Fabio Capello is to stay as England manager, the Football Association has confirmed.

The Italian, 64, found himself under pressure following a disastrous World Cup campaign that saw England thrashed by Germany in their last-16 tie.

On Monday he was told he would learn his fate in two weeks, only to be given full FA backing four days later.

"We remain convinced that Fabio is the best man for the job," Club England chairman Sir Dave Richards said.

Knew he wouldn't be sacked before 2012, make the FA look stupid.

And they'd have to pay a LOT of compensation.

As long as he tries new players he has 2 years to the next tournament, plenty of time.

People seem to forget the way we qualified for the tournament, one bad tournament should not mean we instantly get rid of Fabio

To be fair, the other fallen "big" teams did have harder groups IMO.

Maybe Ashley Young, Mark Noble, Michael Turner and Scott Parker too, it's looking a long way ahead but why not, the core of this "team" has essentially had 5 major tournaments now with nothing to show.

Young and Agbonlahor should be blooded, I've always liked Scott Parker, not sure a 30 year old looking forward 2 or 4 years to the next tournament would be the way forward though, Lee Cattermole would be a good shout, I like his all action style

he has maturerd somewhat since he left middlesbrough on and off the pitch,and if he can keep himself fit and look after himself off the field he could be a great player.

The thing I like about him is he is a high energy player who puts himself about a bit, I think this England team are far to lightweight and easily bullied, I think for ability alone he wouldn't get in the team but for me he would be far more productive in the midfield than someone like Gareth Barry who for some reason has become this must play player when in reality he is alright but nothing special

i always thought josh walker was a better all round player than cattermole,but since cattermole has left us he has stepped up his game and seemed to have sorted his off the field antics out.

I agree with Randy that he has sorted out his off-field behavour but for me at Sunderland he doesn't seem intrested. His 1st 5-6 games were brilliant but after that he wasn't at the races. I don't doubt that he has great potential but for England, that position, Jack Rodwell is your man.

I think there is a place for both of them in the future if England ever freshened up their formation and went with the 2 sitting midfielders and the three attacking behind the front man

I'd also play Rooney as the attacking midfielder just off of the front man, and the front man would be Darren bent

It's the core of Gerrard/Lampard we need rid of, couldn't give a shit how good either one is but they can't play together. Keep Gerrard CM or behind the strikers or nothing.

I actually wouldn't mind seeing England adopt a Chelsea style diamond but for a national team (particularly England) it would be near impossible to do.

England are far to narrow though, they need natural width, more so on the left hand side, Adam Johnson has to be a must

agreed about Johnson, like Hart he needs to be bled into the team now so that he is ready for the next tournament.
