Top 5 Worst Career Choices Empty
PostSubject: Top 5 Worst Career Choices   Top 5 Worst Career Choices EmptyMon Aug 24, 2009 3:47 pm

Reets, the criteria for this is it must be their choice (i.e. being sacked or killed is not a choice).

1.Bret Hart Moves To WCW

Bret managed to go from a main eventing WWF superstar to mid-card anonymity in WCW in the space of around a year. Coming to WCW off the back of a successful heel run (the pro-Canada shizzles) he was thrust straight into the WCW main event scene. The fans just never got into him though, whether he was heel of face. It didn't help that WCW had bugger all creatively for him either (joining the NWO....gosh!!). He gradually slipped down the ladder into US title territory and pretty much stayed there. His WCW legacy is merely a few good matches. The main event stalwarts (Hogan & co.) also can't have helped matters as they basically decided things up at the top. Also, the tide was just beginning to turn in favour of WWF. The attitude era really began to kick in and he rest is history, WCW started to crumble. The crowning turd in the water was Goldberg ending his career by kicking his brain out and contributing heavily to his subsequent stroke. Shit end to a shit run really.

2.Mero Takes A "Sable-Bomb"

After he took this, everything changed for him. While not the most technically gifted, he was a solid intercontinental competitor and his heel persona was quite tasty. The Sable thing started off OK but a female wrestler power-bombing you would be huge now never-mind then, particularly when Sable was still just a "valet". Nobody would lay down for Mero after that. He could forget the belts and anything else really. The Sable thing carried on for some time but it was definitely a favour too far. Mero had nothing after this and simply packed up and left, he was a tainted product.

3.The Legion of Doom Return To WWF

One of the biggest and greatest tag teams of all time had their legacy severely damaged after their misguided return to WWF. They managed to do quite well in WCW in the mid-90's (considering their age and the fact the NWA days were their best) and got good feuds going with high profile wrestlers. WCW seemed keen to build around them but they were tempted away by WWF. Started off OK, got the belts on a few occasions I think, but then the New Age Outlaws. These were the future of the company and WWF made that very clear using the LOD as an example. They were embarrassed, outsmarted, out-wrestled and even pinned cleanly by "degenerates". It was really sad to see. Then came the dodgy LOD 2000 gimmick which just tried to squeeze some life out of the out of shape duo by playing them of against each other, they left on very poor terms after this. I truly believe without this run, which for a lot of people is their only taste of the Road Warriors, they would be much more respected and acknowledged.

4.Paul London Grins

Speaks for itself this one really. WWE is the top of the tree as far as the wrestling business is concerned, you can't argue with that. To chuck your career away over something like this where you wont gain anything and could lose everything is mental. It was so obvious too, wasn't like a sly smile off camera. It didn't lead to his immediate release but a massive brick wall appeared in front of him and it was only ever a matter of time.

5.Mass Transit's "Debut"

So you want to wrestle and one night you have an opportunity of a lifetime. A member of a tag team doesn't show so you jump in. Tell a few lies, say your 19 and you've been trained, get Dad to back you up too! Ya have to take this opportunity surely?

Indeed you do, unless of course it's New Jack your facing. The subsequent events saw young Mr.Transit have his head sliced open with a scalpel so much so that his skull was scratched. He literally lay there with blood gushing out of his head and right there his career began and end. Owch.

Top 5 Worst Career Choices Empty
PostSubject: Re: Top 5 Worst Career Choices   Top 5 Worst Career Choices EmptyMon Aug 24, 2009 4:20 pm

Cracking article, sir.

I'd add the following:

Chris Harris moving to WWE:
Going from one half of one of the best tag teams in America's Most Wanted, to a decent feud when they split with James Storm, to a spot in a King of the Mountain match, Harris then decided to bad-mouth TNA in a promo, flounced off to WWE. Only to get dumped straight into development for 6 months, then debut on ECW in a horrific leotard, out of shape, named Braden Walker. The inevitable 'future-endeavours' followed in about a fortnight, and I've not seen him in a ring since.

DH Smith getting caught on the Wellness Test within a month of appearing on the main roster:
This one is fairly obvious, really. His father died early after a heart attack, following decades of drug abuse. The Bulldog was on something for the majority of his WWE career, and the passages about it in Bret Hart's book are terrifying. So what does his kid do? Hits the steroids nice and early in his career. See also: Chavo Guerrero

LOD with that dumbass ventriloquist dummy, around 1992:

Vince signs the most popular tag team on the planet. He pushes them. He gets them to appear at Summerslams, Wrestlemanias, they face the biggest and best tag teams WWF has to offer. Whilst being followed around by Paul Ellering and that stupid dummy, Rocco. Disco mentions the LOD 2000 thing, I'd go with this as the worst thing ever that LOD had to do.

Batista as a main-eventer:

Self-explanatory, really.

Mr Kennedy deciding to become he official spokesman for the WWE in the aftermath of the Beniot fiasco and declaring that their is no drug problem in the WWE and he was 100% clean, which in turn prompted a smug Vinny Mac to use him as an example of what he wanted the WWE to be all about, a month later it was confirmed Kennedy failed a Wellness Test and his push may as well have taken him off a cliff because that was it as far as being a major player in the WWE was concerned

To be fair about DH Smith, he took and failed the Wellness Test about a month before he got on TV, Vince just wanted to make an example out of him and make it look like they where punishing a TV Wrestler

Jeff Hard failing a wellness test before Mania 24

Jeff was on the crest of a wave in the WWE, in the middle of his biggest push, he was penciled in to win the MitB match at WrestleMania XXIV and it was believed he would cash in the case that night and win the WWE title from the winner of the Triple Threat, he has since won 3 world titles in the 15 months since then so its hardly suicide but only recently has he been considered to be 'main event caliber' and even then he has not been booked like a serious main event talent, now he needs/wants time off and if he kept clean last year he could probably have hand written his own contract this time around, now in order to get his time off he will have to halt his career at a time when its never been so successful

I'm not defending him, just the situation!

Matt Hardy telling the world Lita was doing the dirty:

From a reasonably successful solo run, including a win over Rey Mysterio at Wrestlemania, in one blog on his website, Matt Hardy went popular mid-carder to sacked and dumped. He then got rehired a few months later, and spent most of the next 12 months jobbing out to guys like The Miz. meanwhile, the chap who ploughed Lita in Matt's absence is now a 9 time world champ, one of the company's top heels and has main evented Wrestlemania. Matt's still mid-card on Smackdown.

Wasn't it when Vince "died" when his limo exploded it showed the superstars backstage all looking unhappy but London smiled. So he got fired.

the paul London thing was when Vince's limo exploded and 'killed' him - during Vince's walk to the limo, he went past the entire Raw roster who all looked a bit grim and sombre.

Aside from Mr. London, who was sporting a massive shit-eating grin. he started jobbing shortly after, was split from Kendrick and future-endeavored without winning another match, I think.
