Watching wrestling without watching the matches?

I was talking to a friend of mine who I had always assumed to be a normal wrestling fan like me and he then told me something that quite surprised me.

I know that he watches both WWE and TNA on a regular basis so it surprised me when he never watched the wrestling. I wasn't sure what he meant and he then told me that he only watched for the storylines. He said he recorded the shows then simply fast forwarded through almost all of the in ring action and simply watched the end of matches to see how they finish be it clean or a run in etc. His only exception to this is the PPVs where he watches to see the climax of feuds etc

Are there any other wrestling fans who do this? Fast forward through all the action on Raw, Smackdown, ECW, Impact! etc and simply watch how a match ends or watches the promos?

why would anyone do that what is a story line without the wrestling

dont get why he does this you get some amazing wrestling moves hit every now and then and you get some great matches also some storylines start in the match

I can sort of understand why he does it although it seems a little pointless to me. I would never do that as for me the storylines complement the Wrestling not the other way round.

I don't do it myself although I can see why he does it. Most of the TV matches are crap or/and too short, that most of the time, it is an ordeal to sit and watch them, especially RAW main events which usually consist of tag team or No DQ matches (that always include interference often meaning the match never officially ends or starts) now.

The matches on ECW, SD and iMPACT are far superior to the ones on RAW. RAW makes their matches feel like time-killers and I am sick of seeing RAW Divas vs Smackdown Divas every other week.

That's a very good point actually Rocky. I never really noticed but now you say it, the matches on ECW and SD! are superior to Raw and the main event on Monday Night rarely has a clean finish or is a pointless Tag match. It's much more focused on segments and storylines, which is fair enough i guess but would explain why Raw is probably my least favourite of all the WWE shows now.

SD! this week was superb wrestling-wise this week, whereas Raw had that poor excuse for a wrestler with his stupid kendo stick, Shane McMahon interrupting the only decent match. Raw needs to sort itself out.

Sometimes i do the same cos the wrestling gets boring, Only sometimes though

I've done this plenty of times - im sorry but im not gonna sit down and watch the likes of Batista 'wrestle' for a valuable 7-8 minutes of my life, i watch most of it but when im really strapped for time i'll quickly scan through a show just to keep up to date, PPVs on the other hand i'll watch the whole way through (even Batista matches) because it normally provides decent matches

so you will be fast forwarding the main event at judgement day lol

Na - like i said i'll watch his matches when its at PPV, but just incase something really intresting happens, but every week i cant be assed with him, he actually puts me off wrestling

thats how i feel with Jeff hardy and to make things worse he's number one contender

btw i really wanted Punk to cash the MITB in on SD and become champ didnt expecting

I've done it a couple of times, I skip through every diva match. I also skipped through Batista and Shane vs. Priceless and Orton vs. Vince as I didn't want to sit through what I was sure was going to be rubbish matches, especially since even the storyline is boring me now.

I do it quite often, particularly if its guys I find boring, I can't remember the last time I actually watched the Undertakers entrance

haha its soo true, i didnt realise that alot of people actually do this. I love watching ecw matches, theyre always impressive but yeah ....the raw main events never seem to have enough going on to keep me watching.......guess it all depends on who is in the match really.....but i guess if you skip thru every match all the time, its kind of defeating the point of watching wrestling!

I got the impression that my friend was watching the storylines mainly and simply viewed the matches as a way to further the story. I also believe that the storys are to build up the match not the match is to build up the story so was interested to get other peoples views. Thanks guys

Its a bit of both, story lines are all geared for the big match, but all the other side issue matches are geared towards the story

i will skip entrances and if i know there will be an ad break in the middle of the match I will fast forward the first 75% of the match, ads ruin the suprise factor in essence.
