Original Plans For The Universal Title

It’s been noted that the original SummerSlam plans called for Finn Balor to face Chris Jericho. Those plans were obviously changed as Finn Balor went on to face Seth Rollins in the first ever Universal Championship match.

It was reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that original plans called for Raw to get the WWE World Championship, and SmackDown to get the Universal Championship, with AJ Styles winning the new belt.

Plans were changed due to Roman Reigns’ suspension, and the call was made to put another babyface in the top spot on Raw.

It’s also being reported that Finn Balor was set to defend his title against Kevin Owens at Clash of the Champions in September against Kevin Owens. The match was supposed to end in a way that would set up a triple threat match with Balor, Owens and Jericho for Hell in a Cell.

Monday on Raw the Universal Title will be decided in a fatal 4-way match with Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns, Kevin Owens and Big Cass as participants.

Hope this means KO gets the title in the 4 way.

Spooky. In the wrestling game (returns) I've predicted KO, Jericho and Rollins 3 way feud with KO becoming the new top guy. If Owens wins they can use that to drag Jericho into the feud, and Rollins won't take the result lightly. I can't see how 'wwe officials' would not want this, can you imagine the promos and matches. Ratings!

How badly would the internet mark out too. Both clearly due reward for the recent work. Jericho has been working so hard to get any and all new talent over, Owens has been a consistently top performer, up there with AJ who has his own show now
