| I was just watching WCW Spring Stampede 1999 and realized that things could have been booked A LOT better in WCW after that show. Kevin Nash was booking the shows at the time and booked himself to win the title which shows how little he cared about doing what was good for business. After Spring Stampede, DDP was the new champion and had received assistance from the returning Macho Man Randy Savage in winning the title. Goldberg had just gotten revenge on Kevin Nash for his Starrcade title loss by pinning Nash at Spring Stampede. Hulk Hogan, whom was being cheered again by fans, was out with an injury.
Here's what I would have done if I had been booking things:
On the April 12th Nitro, I'd have announced Goldberg as Number One Contender to DDP's title by virtue of his win at Spring Stampede. I'd have set the DDP/Goldberg Match for Slamboree. Kevin Nash would have actually started that night's Nitro complaining about Goldberg getting the title match. Sting would have interrupted Nash, setting up a match between them at Slamboree that would have played off Sting being in the Wolfpack before his injury then the Wolfpack going heel while he was out without his knowledge. This Nash/Sting match would be a Number One Contender's Match.
Come Slamboree, I would have booked Nash and Sting to fight to a double countout in their match. I would have booked Goldberg to beat DDP by DQ after interference from Savage. That would have kept Goldberg looking strong without having DDP look like a transitional champion. The match would have been centered around DDP trying to snap off a Diamond Cutter but not being able to catch Goldberg in it. The next night on Nitro, I would have booked a Sting/Nash rematch to determine a Number One Contender. I'd have had that match end again in a no contest, after Macho Man would interfere and attack both men.
The next week, Macho Man would have started the show explaining his actions from the previous week. The reasoning would have been that Savage was helping DDP because DDP had promised him the next title match. Thus, he would make sure that HE (Savage) would be the next contender. I would have booked Ric Flair (the on-screen) President of WCW at the time) to come out and tell Savage that the fans had been promised that either Nash or Sting would get a title match. And that after Slamboree, Goldberg deserved another title shot since he was robbed. This would have led to Savage vs. Nash vs. Sting vs. Goldberg at Great American Bash. At some point of that match, Nash and Sting would have taken each other out of the equation, leaving Goldberg and Savage in the ring. Goldberg would have pinned Savage, getting revenge for the Slamboree attack. This would have made Goldberg the Number One Contender at Bash at the Beach. At the end of Great American Bash, I'd have had Goldberg celebrating, only for DDP (he'd have been given the night off) to run in and hit a surprise Diamond Cutter.
On Nitro, I'd have had DDP refuse to face Goldberg unless he beat the other Jersey Triad members (Kanyon and Bam Bam Bigelow) first. In the meantime, Savage, Nash, and Sting would still be fighting with each other for a title shot. Goldberg would run through the Triad members. Then, at Bash at the Beach Goldberg would have beaten DDP and win the title cleanly. Afterwards, the other Triad members would have run in and helped DDP beat down Goldberg. Then, out of nowhere, I'd have had a returning Hulk Hogan (back in red and yellow) save Goldberg from the beatdown. Hogan and Goldberg would have had a stare down to end the PPV.
Then, at Road Wild, I'd have booked Goldberg vs. Savage for the title. I'd also have booked The Triad vs. Sting, Hulk Hogan, and Kevin Nash. I'd have put a stipulation in place where the winner of the fall would get a title shot against the winner of Goldberg/Savage at FallBrawl. This would have been booked as a fun match that would have ended up with Hogan's team fighting each other, as well as fighting the Triad. I'd have booked Hogan to win to set up Hogan'/Goldberg II at FallBrawl.
That's where I run out of ideas write now.....I think that would have been WORLDS better than what Kevin Nash actually gave us as the booker back in the day! What do you think? | |
