Is it bigger than the IC belt as far it being a stepping stone to bigger and better things
The MITB only happens once a year, and the winner, gets a shot to face any champion he wants. The Winner has always won in that case, and became a champion. Edge used it and was shot into the main event. RVD won it and became a good champion, though short lived due to his charges. CM Punk is always in the pursuit.

But when you compare them to the IC Champions of the past, few of them are in the main events of the WWE right now. So right now, if a wrestler is about to be shot into the main event, should he win the IC belt, or should he win MITB?

well obviously they would be shot into the main event and most wrestlers characters if they aren't super baby faces will take advantage of hurt champions right after grueling matches. and win the title.

The IC belt is still big, the wrestler defends it more often than the major title so that means he gets good exposure and its good experience to have that first before getting the brands main title. I say John Morrison has been only improved by having the IC belt and he never won MitB.
