WWE issued the following press release today regarding next week's RAW in Denver being bumped due to the Denver Nuggets vs. LA Lakers game at the Pepsi Center.
WWE VS. NBA May 18, 2009
STAMFORD, Conn., May 18, 2009 – World Wrestling Entertainment®’s live, internationally televised broadcast, WWE Monday Night RAW®, (USA Network, 9:00 PM ET) to take place at the Pepsi Center in Denver next Monday, May 25th is in jeopardy of being cancelled by the Denver Nuggets. The WWE and Denver Nuggets are currently at an impasse in resolving a scheduling debacle by the team and the Pepsi Center.
A sell-out crowd is expected to attend the WWE show at the same time the Denver Nuggets are slated to square off against the Los Angeles Lakers for Game 4 of the NBA Western Conference Finals. WWE has held the May 25th date with the Pepsi Center since August 15, 2008.
“Even though the Denver Nuggets had a strong team this year and were projected to make the playoffs, obviously Nuggets and Pepsi Center owner Stan Kroenke did not have enough faith in his own team to hold the May 25th date for a potential playoff game,” said WWE Chairman Vince McMahon.
RAW possibly cancilled, it could be RAW of the year if so

Am I wrong in thinking if WWE booked it first they cant do a damn thing to stop the WWE show? They booked it in August lol, 9 month's ago!
I can see Raw getting taped earlier, a day or two before, the only way to please every body (bar those unforunate's that turn up to the Nugget game with a Raw ticket )...

No because the arena is the home of the Nuggets, which gives them first refusal
They should just go back their later on in the year and all tickets will be eligible, then hold some sort of special show next week, like an old school RAW from New York, cut the prices, get a hot bumper crowd, don't go mad on the stage or pyro or tron and have a real old school 1997 feel about it

Last minute change of venue? Could work, the place they used to do Raw was decent but alot smaller, think they'd opt for that instead of the fancy arse HD set?
I think they'd either tape it earlier or show a rerun. Or maybe an highlight show of Judgment Day?

I defo don't think they would downsize it, RAW is Vince's baby, not got a clue what they will do, the sensible thing if they can though would be to tape it on Sunday then show it Monday

With the buzz surrounding the conflict for next Monday night in Denver with Raw scheduled to run at the Pepsi Center and the Nuggets and Lakers scheduled to play Game 4 of the NBA Western Conference Finals at the same time, WWE Chairman Vince McMahon appeared on ESPNEWS to talk about the situation.
Jonathan Coachman conducted the interview with his former boss. Coach mentions that Vince is never one to step down from a fight. Coachman mentions that next week’s Raw at the Pepsi Center was booked in August, but the contract was not signed until April.
Vince says that Stan Kroenke should be arrested for impersonating a good businessman for booking a WWE television show when their team would not have been in the playoffs. Vince suggests that the fans of the Nuggets had more faith in the team than their management. Vince says that it is not good business to not support your own team. It is also not good business to throw the WWE out on its ear when there were no tentative dates or provisions in the contract that they signed.
Coach mentions a statement from the Nuggets that they were trying to deal with the conflict. Coachman asks Vince what they are trying to do to work things out and Vince suggests a steel cage match against Kroenke. He says that it will settle everything.
Coach asks if Vince will be in Denver on Monday. Vince says that the WWE trucks are on the way to Denver and it looks like there are going to be two events in the Pepsi Center.
Vince says that the person at fault is Stan Kroenke. Vince says that it is unfair for the way that he treated the Nuggets fans and the WWE. He says that it is not fair to book the WWE event at the same time as the NBA playoffs.
Vince holds up a Lakers shirt and says that he wants to personally give it to Mr. Kroenke.
Coachman asks Vince if they will go to the NBA to resolve this problem. Vince says that NBA put it back in the Nuggets’ court because the Nuggets never presented it to the NBA as a booked date for scheduling purposes.
Vince McMahon came off well while it seemed at times that Vince was cutting a promo with the number of times that he mentioned Stan Kroenke’s name. It looks like it could be a very eventful Memorial Day in Denver.

Ah Vince is always great at taking things like this and really make the other guy look like shit. I love how he says it's not fair to book the WWE at the same time as the playoffs, yet Vince obviously didn't have a problem with it at the time of booking, he must have assumed they wouldn't make it either.

To be fair though Vince has no loyalty to his team, it would be like David Murray booking out Ibrox on the same night as a Uefa Cup semi final even though Rangers would be in the quarter finals, the deal was agreed in August but not signed until 15th of April or something like that, surely then there was a realistic chance they could be in that position

Doesnt bode well for Le Arsenal, if this guy ends up buying them
If the event was booked in August and signed in April, the only person whos at fault is Kroenke, so he should be forced to find a new location for his game rather than cancel an event that was booked 9 months in advance.

I completly forgot its the same gezzer tryin to buy arsneal that could be entertaining if he finally gets hold of them.
I don't understand how its up to vince to find somewhere else if hes got a contract fot that date with no clauses on cancellation then its up to thwm to find nba and devener to sort it out. There series is abest of seven surley it would be easier for them to rereange one game.

Well the Pepsi centre is the Nuggets home arena, they are contractually bined to fulfil their obligations to that particular venue, its just a double booking, when that happens the second booking is usually cancilled, since the Nuggets own the arena they are the #1 priority, however they may move yet

If the arena has no bookings on the Sunday, then WWE should just pre-tape RAW then. It's not like it always has to be live, they pre-tape when they have shows outside of the US.

Nba schedule
1. TUE 5/19 DEN at LAL 2 - THU 5/21 DEN at LAL 3 - SAT 5/23 LAL at DEN 4 - MON 5/25 LAL at DEN
Couldnt they switch the 1st and 3rd game. Im nt sure about nba seedings and wether they affect the fixtures in these part of the playoffs. Just an idea as the tickets for the games would be the same i supose all the logistics may make it to much hassle for the nba and the wwe will just get bumped.

It sounds like Vince has no choice, to be honest. Although if I were him, I'd just leave the TitanTron behind, so everyone watching it sees WWE's logo for the whole match.

It also be quite epic if Vince managed to negotiate 20 or so tickets for the front row as a good faith gesture then have the WWE guys 'invade' the NBA game, what exposure that would be!

The Pepsi Center originally booked a World Wrestling Entertainment "Monday Night Raw" event for Memorial Day, but with the Nuggets in the Western Conference finals, the Denver arena had to bump the wrestlers. The Nuggets and Lakers will play Game 4 of their series that night, according to Paul Andrews, executive vice president of Kroenke Sports Enterprises.
But McMahon, the WWE chairman, has a show to put on — as well as a live international broadcast— and now he has no venue.
"I'm up the creek and I don't have a paddle, either. I really don't know what to do," McMahon said Monday by phone. "We can't reschedule the event. We can't get out there as often as we would like for a television event, because we're the second-largest traveling show in the world to Ringling Brothers. The amount of equipment we have is extraordinary."
There have been 10,000 tickets sold to the event, and McMahon expects a sellout. WWE secured the Pepsi Center on Aug. 15 and as recently as April 15, a week before the Nuggets entered the playoffs, the arena sent a contract to WWE.
"There's no provision in the contract whatsoever that states we could be pre-empted," McMahon said. "We would have never played the date if we had known we could be pre-empted. We've been working around NBA dates for a long, long time, and had we known this was going to be something unceremoniously thrown out on, we never would have taken the date on a tentative basis. We don't do that."
Andrews said the Pepsi Center is working to reschedule the event.
As for McMahon, he will have to make a decision possibly in the next 24 hours about where to take his traveling show.
"I don't have any idea what I'm going to do, whether I'm going to produce a show out of a

parking lot somewhere," he said. "I have no idea what's going to happen." Martin-Cuban update.
Saturday, Nuggets forward Kenyon Martin called Mavericks owner Mark Cuban a coward for apologizing to Martin's mother via a blog — instead of in person — after Cuban insulted her after Game 3 of the Denver-Dallas playoff series.
Monday, Cuban said via e-mail that from now on, anything he says to Martin will be face to face. Cuban regretted his actions in Dallas. He wants to contact Martin's mother by phone, something NBA commissioner David Stern recommended, but Cuban hasn't received her contact information from the Nuggets. And there is some consternation from the Cuban camp over the expletives an irate Martin yelled into the stands during the two games in Dallas.
