Triple H Reportedly Behind Sheamus Winning The Royal Rumble

Chris Jericho was pegged to win this year's 30-Man Royal Rumble Match, but Triple H, who has gained even more influence behind the scenes, called for Sheamus to be the decided winner. The final decision was made last week.

Randy Orton was initially pegged as the Rumble victor since he cleanly put over Mark Henry during The World's Strongest Man's rise as World Heavyweight Champion and the event was taking place in his hometown of St. Louis, Missouri. Later, the idea was changed to Jericho, setting up a WWE Championship showdown against CM Punk at WrestleMania XXVIII.

WWE officials contemplated last week having John Cena win the match due to the stipulation that "everyone was eligible" for the Rumble. Cena would win the match and subsequently make a tough decision: take the title shot and not face The Rock at WrestleMania.

Wouldn't be supprised for Triple H to have been behind the decision. However when you look at it, no need for Jericho to win the rumble there will be enough between Jericho and Punk for the WWE title match not to need the rumble winner there so always Smackdown winner. So Orton and Sheamus were the two obvious ones. Then they just have to go by what plans they have for Mania, if they have a set fued for Orton then leaves him out of it leaves Sheamus for the rumble win.

a set feud for orton? He'll be the champ by mania surely. Bryan vs Sheamus at wm... Nope

then again they would have to turn orton. Could do him good as he's a bit stagnant considering he's one of the biggest names stuck doing feck all. Could always have a 3 way at mania if christian is about, although i've always thought if the rumble winner isn't in a one on one it would seem pointless winning the rumble.

Yeah I mentioned this the other day, Orton is the 3rd biggest star in the WWE at the minute having been overtaken by Punk.
Orton has had a very slow year and his face Character has become really stale.
a Heel turn would do him the world of good and open up possiblities of some good feuds for him with you now being able to compete on both shows.
I would like to see Orton go for the streak as he is one of only 2 or possibly 3 people who you belive could take it.

I like to think that but when you look at the most likely WM cards at the minute, HHH v Undertaker and Rock v Cena seem to be the biggest matches with Jericho in one of the title matches. Not much of a changing of the guard there

I think Orton's problem is the Viper character. He's meant to be a bit of a psycho, yet he poses for, and smiles at the fans? And if you turn him, can he ever really top booting his boss in the head and battering his children? I think that's what has become stale, and it will be interesting to see if he ever evolves the character.

theres one heel evlolution of Orton i can see. The gimmick of 'legend', he used to be the 'legend killer' to make a name for himself. Now he is a legend and his legend can't be killed or something along those lines
