Quote :
It angered many when Chancellor George Osborne ruled out tax relief for the UK games industry in May. It was seen as an about turn as we were lead to believe that the scheme would actually be going ahead.

All might not be lost though as Dundee West MSP Joe FitzPatrick has received a letter from the Chancellor announcing that the UK government will consult with the games industry this autumn to review its plans. The letter states the following;

“There has been a relative decline in the tax competitiveness of the UK.

To ensure the continued effectiveness of the schemes, the Government will consult with business in autumn 2010 to review the taxation of intellectual property, the support R&D tax credits provide for innovation and the proposals of the Dyson review. We would welcome any representations on the schemes as part of this process.”

MSP Joe FitzPatrick said he welcomed the Chancellor’s announcement;

“I will be contacting leading industry figures and major stakeholders such as TIGA to ensure the strongest possible representations can be made to this review.”

This is a very positive step in the right direction, but we really aren’t holding our breath. Then again, stranger things have happened.

They still won't do it because the Tories are made up of posh hooray henries and in there eyes only little kids play computer games and it's unhealthy for them and they should be reading more.
