It would appear as though one of the best players ever to grace a snooker table could be finished. I am sure you have seen all the headlines in the papers in the last few days and it certainly took the spotlight of Graeme Dott and Neil Robertson.
I am not taking a stance on this as I believe in innocent until proven guilty, well that and also the fact that I dont really want to believe that a Snooker great, ranked #1 in the world would feel the need to do this.
Thoughts on the matter welcome.

Easy to point the finger but it would be hard to refuse.
After all, he was only gonna (allegedly) lose 4 frames, probably to crap opponents to make sure someone won a lot of money. He wasn't exactly chucking a World Championship Final Match.
Principal wise though it fucks things up a bit but like you say nothings been proved yet, there is a video apparently...

Get lots of crazy bets in snooker. I was talking to a drunk guy who throws money away on nights out and he said he put £3000 on Dott to beat Robertson. No one believed him because he talks shite but I wouldnt put it past him.
I would love to find out how the NOTW got wind of all this to set up the first meeting etc, apparently there are more revelations coming this Sunday.
Apparently Higgo said he went along with it because he didnt know who he was dealing with and mentioned the Russian Mafia but they had meetings in Scotland before that (well Mooney did) so they knew what they were getting into when they went to Ukraine.
Hearne says the probe wont take long so it wont be a Stephen Maguire sort of thing.

I think the bit that has really screwed over snooker is his manager being part of it all, especially when his manager is one of the main guys running the sport.
I've seen the video, and it is pretty damning. The News of the World might be bastards, but something must have lead them to Higgins, and him being prepared to do it. Someone's dropped him right in it.
It's a really clever way of doing it, rather than losing matches, just dropping the odd frame here and there. All it takes is one missed shot, and no-one would be any the wiser.

Yeah his manager was part of the committe I think along with Hearne and Davis etc. I couldnt believe the whole thing on Sunday and I am eager to see what the other revelation is, who knows, at this stage it could be anything.
Not seen the Notw video yet, just what was given on SSN but I will take a look now.

I think there is something deeper here Disco other than what is shown on the video. First of all it isnt full length just bits and pieces here and there, we dont know what was said during that. Secondly they said they were pressurised into doing this but I saw no sign of intimidation from them but it still has to be taken into account.

Suppose he could plead entrapment, especially if NOTW approached him.
I think the way the video is being edited is just keeping the juicy bits in, the police and that will have access to the full one.

Stitched up nicely!
One other thought - if what the NotW are saying is wrong, then why hasn't Higgins sued the crap out of them? He's issued some statement about how his conscience is clear, but his reputation is shot, he's in danger of never playing again, and he's done nothing about it...

the sun/notw have done this before to that aussie guy that was a bit of a nutter (hann i think his name was), but he agreed to throw a match instead of 4 probably insignificant frames, and got banned for 8 years for it, and with hearn just starting as the chairman over there i think they are going to make an example of higgins and i wouldnt be surprised if he get a similar sort of ban

I would just love to know how the NOTW got wind of the whole thing and set about all these meetings. They said they would only do this fixing in the World Series which is the tournaments that Higgins himself runs.
Dont think he is doing this yet, he is apparently still consulting his lawyers about what he should do, expect to see something happen in the next few days.

Just noticed the title of this was changed. Who did that? I thought someone else had written an article about it for a second.

Would be tempting though and so easy to do too when you don't through a whole match. It probably happens a lot, same with Tennis.

No doubt, it's easy to lose the odd frame here and there and no-one bats an eyelid.
The best match-fixing I think has ever happened is the Italian footy one from a couple of years back that got Juve relegated from Serie A. the week before they were due to play, say Inter, they'd get a certain ref appointed, who'd make sure that he sent off one of Inter's best players, thus making him suspended for the big match against Juve. It took years for anyone to catch on!
