PS3 Firmware 4.45 Is Out But Don’t Install It Yet

There have been plenty of reports on the PlayStation support forums  of the update bricking PS3s. For clarity: It appears that this update is completely killing some PlayStation 3 consoles.]Do not download and install it until we get the all clear.

The update is mostly for stability purposes, although it also allows users to switch off trophy notifications. It’s not like it’s a big loss to wait a couple of days while Sony investigates and fixes this potential problem. Don’t forget that if you’re a PS Plus subscriber, you might have your console set to auto download and install these updates too – it might be worth digging into your settings (Settings > System Settings > Automatic Update > Off) and switching that off.

Heard about this today, seems odd that an update doesn't work.

It's issues like this and the hacking problem a while back that kinda puts me off getting a PS4, I wonder if these kind of issues will happen in the future?

Ive had bout 6 ps3's all breaking but never from a update. the one i have now is going well. my xbox is also going good touch wood.

Really? My PS3 is still going strong after 4 years...

had 2 in the first year of it being out 60gb, 3 of the 40gb and now had the slim for 2 years 250gb they seemed to have fixed it all with that

Never had any problems with my PS3.

lucky it use to be the only had a ps3 but if it went now ive got 360 as back up.
