| PSN Pass is a new thing that is starting on all new releases in September and on wards where if you buy a pre-owned game you will have to pay for it to get online as a redemption code will now be added to all games and once they are traded in the code doesn't work again so if you buy a pre-owned game you'll have to pay to get a code to get it online.
Resistance 3 will be the first game to start it off.

| That is stupid and I was going to buy a PS3 because of the price drop too, but fuck that scam off as this is just like the 'no erase game save' thing Capcom put on Resident Evil Mecernaries as a way to stop the sale of pre-owned games.
Whats worse is Sony are charging people for something that they would have got free is they bought the game full price.
Bit stupid when one of PS3's advantages over Xbox360 is not having to pay to play online.
BTW this isn't the first time i've seen this 'pass' idea as Modnation racers on the PSP had it too.

| That's bullshit!! Mind you I don't buy many pre-owned games as I'll get maybe 4/5 games in a year and know which ones they are before release. Still shit though but depends how much they are charging for the Online Pass | |

| erm, this is already the case? I thought EA games already have this. And it's perfectly fine. Any game you buy that you want online gaming on, you get new anyway right? I honestly dont see the problem. | |

I do the same as you, but sometimes (very rarely) I exchange games I don't like, Also if I was to buy a PS3 i'd be looking for killer apps in the bargin bins for the games i've missed out on such as Mirrors Edge and GTA. Sony need to becareful with the pass idea though due to the situation with Resident Evil Mercenaries when tried a similar trick to stop it selling second hand (can't erase save data and can't start from the begining) and whilst the trick worked for them because shops won't accept trade in's of that game, the sales were low due to fans boycotting it and Capcom got alot of messages saying stuff like “I was going to buy the game, but if I don't like I can't trade it in, so I won't risk buying it” and “i'm not buying it as I like to replay games when I complete them”, so Capcom have stated that the 'no erase save' idea won't ever happen again and I hope the same happens with games running this pass idea as i'm against the attack on the bargin bins. This is why DLC and purchasing games online is popular with the makers of games because they know you can't exchange a downloadable game (when I sold my PSP they said I don't get extra for the downloaded games as the SD card has to be formatted for security and information protection reasons). The best way to stop bargin bins is MAKE YOUR GAMES CHEAPER because if the games are cheaper then the pre-owned prices will too cheap for shops to bother accepting trades in.

| you will still be able to get games cheap anyway. You can get brand new OLD games on amazon. It works for ea and it's fine. Get a game new if you're going to be on the companies servers for hours of fun. Online gameplay is rapidly increasing playability, sports games lead the way. For one payment you can enjoy fifa for a year vs anyone in the world. Jesus Christ, praise technology. And say the companies who make it happen, so they put even more into their online capability | |

| I agree Sexton as most games get old and online play is either empty or shut down completly. | |

| Didn't last year's Smackdown vs Raw game have something like this? Seem to remember there being a code in the game to redeem to get online, and people buying pre-owned copies had to lash another few quid to go online with it...
Anyway, it's no biggie. The games I play online (Red Dead Redemption, Uncharted 2) I bought new anyway. Seeing as Xbox make you pay a monthly fee to go online, PS3 owners still get the better deal.

| yeah ea and wwe games have used it and it works. Might create a slight dip in rentals, but I still think the kind of games that feature extensive online play, dont have a great demand in the 2nd hand and rental market. Getting red dead as I missed that new, only 15 quid for a brand new copy | |

| games have had this in the past but Sony are starting this for all games so i think they'd get more of the money instead of the makers i assume. | |
