This has reportedly led to Sledgehammer's CoD game being put on hold, while it collaborates with Infinity Ward in developing the single-player part of Modern Warfare 3, while Raven works on the game's online multiplayer features.

While Activision has confirmed that a new Call of Duty game will be in the offing in its usual end of the year slot that normally sends other games retreating into the following year, no specifics have been delivered as yet. Therefore, we'd suggest taking this latest report with a pinch of salt, just in case it turns out to be something other than Modern Warfare 3 this November.

And in that vein, Activision issued a statement to IGN regarding the report: "There's been much speculation recently. We look forward to releasing details for the next Call of Duty in the near future."
