Good news for those out there reluctant to simply pop a “2″ at the end of the upcoming sequel to Rocksteady’s Batman: Arkham Asylum. After all, we’ve already heard that the next chapter in Batman’s relentless mission to clean up Gotham will see the Caped Crusader take to the city’s streets, so it’s a little disingenuous to have the word “Asylum” in the title again. Unless, you know, he’s going back there. And, well, why would he?
Fittingly, it should come as no surprise that the new game is actually called: Batman: Arkham City, likely a requirement to brand the game with something similar to the first title yet still allude to the wider scope of the sophomore effort.
The newly named sequel, which promises to deliver “a new all-star cast of classic characters and murderous villains from the Batman universe” according to Warners, is scheduled to hit in autumn, 2011. Yes, a year away. Just enough time to clean your tights and polish those batarangs.
Finally, and just like their InFamous 2 reveal, it appears the guys over at GameInformer have scored another big scoop. The next edition of the magazine will be graced by the Dark Knight himself, with more details about the sequel contained within its dark, rain-soaked pages.

Finally details for Rocksteady's sequel to Batman: Arkham Asylum have emerged from the darkness and judging by the initial pictures we're betting on Batman: Arkham City getting some catty co-op.
The tasty artwork featured on the next cover of Game Informer shows Bats all tangled up with Catwoman, and it seems more flirty than hostile if you ask us.
One shot shows Catwoman chained up and Batman with bloody nose. You'd be forgiven for thinking the two had just gone at it (not like that), but chains aren't really the caped crusaders style. What if The Dark Knight was actually fighting to save Selina?
Batman and Catwoman have been lovers, fighters and everything in between in the comics for years. We think the first Batman: Arkham City shots are teasing more friendship than anything and like we said back in March, we'd love a bit of Batman co-op.
The only thing I'd say was poor about the first one was the boss battles, only one of them was actually difficult so hopefully they'll improve upon that for the sequal.
Those blogging folks have been at it again, leaking the latest Batman: Arkham City details onto the web via the Arkham City blog. The first plot and gameplay details come courtesy of Game Informer magazine - as a lot of these things tend to - revealing the basic premise of the game's story and a few juicy gameplay tidbits.
Apparently, the story revolves around Two-Face's attempts to kill off Catwoman in a bid to gain added credibility amongst the Gotham's network of villains and criminals. This will see Batman taking to the streets of Arkham City, which was created by (former Arkham Asylum warden and Mayoral candidate) Quincy Sharp when he bought and walled off part of the slums.
Batman will be well-equipped though, as he'll start the game with all of the gadgets he acquired in the last game as well as a useful cache of smoke bombs. And he can now counter two attackers at once, which should hopefully mean you can crack heads together.
Here are the details from the latest issue of Game Informer:
Plot info:
Quincy Sharp is no longer running for mayor. Arkham Asylum and Black Gate Prison are unfit to hold inmates. Quincy Sharp buys off part of the slums and walls it off, creating Arkham City. Hugo Strange is now in charge of Arkham City. Two-Face plans to execute Catwoman to gain respect of inmates. The overdose of venom may not be what's wrong with the Joker.
Gameplay info:
You are now able to counter two attacks at once. More puzzles. All gadgets included in the first game are available from the start. Side missions now feature in the game. Gangs roam Arkham City. These are recorded in Batman's criminal database. You find people who work for the Riddler to find Riddler challenges. Batman has smoke bombs.

Sounds great. I thought the first one was one of the best games I've ever played on.
When i started reading this I thought, what the fuck, Arkham City? Theres been no such place in the comics, but when I read that its a new plot dimension in that the Warden had created the city then it sounded good.

“We wanted to create a Robin that players would identify as a contemporary character and move away from the traditional “Boy Wonder” image that most people know. Our vision of Robin is the one of a troubled young individual that is calm and introverted at times but very dangerous and aggressive if provoked. The shaved head is inspired by cage fighters, because we thought that Robin might be doing that in his spare time to keep him on his toes. Still, we kept all the classic trademarks of Robin’s appearance, such as the red and yellow colors of his outfit, the cape and the mask.
“We really hope that people will discover our Robin as one of their new favorite characters in the Batman universe. He is back and he means business.”
